Soonrok Shin is a character in Yumi's Cells.

Appearance[]

Soonrok

Shin Soonrok

Personality[]

At work, Soonrok is a sharp and professional worker who says only what is required.

Soonrok is introverted and operates on "low power mode" at work to save his energy. He only uses his Rational Cell to get through the day, which makes him come across as quiet and emotionless. He wishes to return home as soon as possible. Since he is an introvert, being around other people drains him emotionally and physically. He is happiest when he is at home relaxing. His coworkers frequently invite him to hang out after work, but he always declines, claiming to be too busy. In his comfort zone, he is a lot more empathetic and affectionate.

Soonrok loves coming up with imaginary scenarios in his alone time and can fully immerse himself in the settings. Yumi takes a page from his book and confronts a rival author in her imagination to come to terms with a plagiarization incident.

Soonrok has a strict rule against office romances, but he falls for Yumi and starts dating her.

Soonrok's favorite snack is Oreos with raspberry cream.

Background[]

Story[]

Soonrok first appeared as an employee of a publishing company in charge of Yumi’s works.

It’s a typical day for Son-Rok as he prepares to leave work. His coworkers invite him to see a movie, but he declines. While he is feeling good about returning home, a coworker asks if he has received a contract from Yumi, the writer.

He discovers that the contract is not on his desk and decides to go to Yumi’s workplace to retrieve it. When he arrives at Yumi’s office, Yumi assists him in locating the contract and hands it to him. Soonrok thanks Yumi and exits the office.

Yumi is leaving as well, but she doesn’t want to run into Soonrok in the elevator, so she decides to wait 5 minutes before leaving. She does, however, get to meet Soonrok because he was on the phone near the elevator. Yumi is awkward, but she tries to make conversation.

Yumi inquires about the draft she sent to Soonrok earlier, to which Soonrok responds, “I’ll summarize my opinion and send it to you via email.” Remember Soonrok’s personality, where he tries to keep his words to a minimum at work? His brief response adds to the awkwardness between him and Yumi. Worse, the two happen to board the same bus!

Yumi observes Soonrok on the bus and notices that he is in a good mood. “I guess you feel happy just thinking about going home?” she asks casually. Soonrok then responds, “How did you know that?”

He was just daydreaming about removing his clothes, eating pudding, and watching drama at home.

Soonrok tells Yumi about his personality and how much he enjoys being at home. Yumi realizes that Sun-Rok isn’t as cold as she thought, and he’s also not as quiet.

As the bus approaches Soonrok’s house, Yumi wishes him a happy weekend. Soonrok responds by taking off his glasses and saying, “You, too, have a good weekend.”

When she returns home, Yumi begins to wonder about Sun-Rok.

Meanwhile, Soonrok is having a good time at home. He enjoys watching dramas or reading books at home because he can concentrate and catch the details. Soonrok reads Yumi’s draft while taking a bath. He enjoys the way Yoomi writes about a man and a woman’s relationship.

Later on, Yumi start liking Soonrok and asks him out on a date but he reject her due to his policy of no workplace relationships

Cells[]

Soorok's are yellow-orange.

His Prime Love Cell is nearly the same shade of blue as Yumi's normal Cells and looks right at home with them.

Trivia[]

The character is based on the actors Park Bo-Gum and Kang Ha-Neul. The author said that he wanted the character to appear cheerful rather than serious, so he looked to those two actors as references.
